    Academic Background

    Ms Johari is a social anthropologist with an academic and professional background in the sustainable development of environments and societies. She is currently a PhD candidate in Anthropology. She is also the recipient of several Canadian and international research awards, including from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the International Development Research Centre of Canada, and the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research, New York. Ms Johari has worked as a researcher, associate, and consultant within diverse organizations across the world. These include the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and WWF in Bhutan, the Ford Foundation and International Development Research Centre (IDRC) offices in India, and the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and the World Agroforestry Center (ICRAF) in Indonesia. She is currently contracted as a writer-editor for a USAID-funded forestry project in India that explores linkages between natural resources and economic prosperity.

    Publishing History

    Ms Johari has authored several publications, singly or as the first author in journals that include Himalaya: The Journal of the Association of Nepal and Himalayan Studies, Conservation and Society, and Man & Development. She has also contributed chapters in four edited volumes. Additionally, she has presented papers at several Canadian academic conferences.

    Editing and Reviewing Experience

    In addition to over a decade of freelance editing in a variety of fields (including nursing, medical studies, and health studies), Ms Johari has independently edited several books on topics including politics, history, socioeconomics, agroforestry and nature conservation, agriculture and sustainability, medicinal plants, human migration, and arts and culture. She has extensive experience editing for clients, including senior faculty, for whom English is a second language. She has also served as a peer reviewer for the following journals: World Development and Conservation and Society. Ms Johari joined Edanz Group as a freelance editor in 2013.

    Writing Experience

    Ms Johari has varied writing experience spanning journal articles, book chapters, and book reviews. She is currently writing and editing a book on women in forestry.
