2015 - BSc Chemical Engineering, University of Kansas

    Academic Background

Mr Whitlow is an experienced chemical and biomedical engineer with 10 years of research experience in regenerative medicine and expertise in cell biology and additive manufacturing. Throughout his career, he has published papers in a variety of high-impact journals, presented abstracts at conferences in the US, and written and submitted patents from his research. In graduate school for his master’s thesis, Mr Whitlow developed baculoviruses harboring human genes and encapsulated these viruses in cell scaffolds to demonstrate gene therapy in the context of bone regeneration and wound healing. After graduate school, he worked in the biotechnology industry, most recently as an R&D scientist at a cell therapy company. He has a diverse set of knowledge in chemical engineering topics (he taught Mass Transfer and Reactor Design in graduate school), molecular biology, gene delivery, cell culture, mycology, immunoassays, cell scaffolds, and polymer chemistry. In addition to research experience, Mr Whitlow has also published on topics including drug delivery and nanotechnology. He has experience programming in Java and Python, creating journal illustrations in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, statistical analysis in R, and using MATLAB for finite element analysis.

    Publishing History

Mr Whitlow has published over 15 peer-reviewed papers in journals such as the Journal of Controlled Release, Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews, Langmuir, Acta Biomaterialia, ACS Biomaterials, Advanced Materials Technologies, AAPS, Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics, and Nanoscale. He has also authored a book chapter on biomaterials for Springer. Mr Whitlow has presented abstracts and research at conferences such as the World Biomaterials Congress, the Midwest Conference on Cell Therapy and Regenerative Medicine, and the Midwest Regional 3D Symposium.

    Editing and Reviewing Experience

Mr Whitlow has edited theses, journal manuscripts, grant proposals, and Standard Operating Procedures for colleagues and professors at the University of Kansas. He has taught English grammar and syntax, as well as how to use Adobe Illustrator to create illustrations for manuscripts. In graduate school, he reviewed several manuscripts for ACS Nano for his adviser, who was a reviewer for ACS Nano. While working in the biotechnology industry, he also wrote and reviewed grant proposals for his supervisors. Mr Whitlow joined Edanz as an editor in 2023.

    Writing Experience

Mr Whitlow has written review articles, research papers, and grant proposals on topics including drug delivery, polymer science, cell scaffolds, and wound healing. He has also written and submitted a patent for research he completed in 2019. He has experience with writing surgeons’ dictation for medical procedures.
